Commonwealth of Puerto Rico

Пуэрто-Рико, Содружество Пуэрто-Рико Владение США в Вест-Индии, на о. Пуэрто-Рико и близлежащих островах. 8.9 тыс. кв. км. Население 3.6 млн. человек (1993), главным образом пуэрториканцы. Городское население 71% (1990). Официальный язык испанский. Верующие – католики. Административно-территориальное деление: 78 муниципий. Административный центр – Сан-Хуан. Исполнительную власть осуществляет выборный губернатор. Законодательный орган – Законодательное собрание. С запада на восток простирается хр. Кордильера-Сентраль высотой до 1338 м, вдоль северного и южного берегов – низменности. Климат тропический, пассатный. Вечнозеленые и смешанные леса, на юге и западе – засухоустойчивые кустарники и редколесья. Резерват Лукильо.
